l bought a 95 cadillac deville and didnt see it yet in person,,i was wondering if l could take off the convertible soft top in the back?would it just be the car under it or what?,,and if their is a knock in the motor what do you think l should have to do get a new motor or what? thanks!

l hate to tell u this but the Cadillac Northstar motors from that era r very expensive to fix. It often times costs about the same amount of money to repair those engines than to replace them. A '95 Deville is a nice car, but l think u might have to make some important decisions regarding this purchase in the near future. You see, those cars run great until about 100,000 miles or so & that is when most people trade them in for a new one.

Sorry to be the bear of bad news, & l hope that l am wrong about the weight of this matter.

If u take of the soft top then what u r going to see is the sheet metal on the roof of the car. The only option u have is to either replace the soft top or purchase a conversion kit to make it a convertible, if they r available.

If there is a knock in the motor it could be caused by a great number of things. It could be as simple as not using the correct octane for that engine to a rod going bad & the car needing some major engine work.

l disagree with the previous persons answer regarding the Northstar. The Northstar V-8 is actually a great engine as long as u keep up on the maintenance. They have been known to go over 250,000 miles. When they do need work done, it can be expensive, however it can be expensive on almost any car u purchase.
