This is a tough one, two (questions). The original 1964 Oldsmobile 442, 330 cid meant 4 speed, 4 barrel, and dual exhaust. In 1965 the Oldsmobile 442 had a different meaning and different engine before their new 400 cid engine, and after their 1964 330 cid engine.

being an old guy and driving when this car was built, 442 stands for, 400 engine, 4speed, and 2 DOORS. people who arent old enough to remember the promo is should not answer the questions. 442 is NEVER came with the 330. auto is were not offered till 1969 in the 442's. in 1970 some 442 is were offered with the 455 in either 2V or 4V application.

Oh Bob, what about the 425 offered in ''65''. 442 was an option pkg offered by Olds like Chevy offered the SS pkg.Delorean offered the Pontiac GTO in 1964 as the first Wide track but the first muscle car was the 1961 SS Impala with a 409 in it. It was the shortest, lightest wheel base Chevy offered and was an instant hit on both the dragstrip as well as the round track. Oh yea, the 2 eng. used in 1965 were the 400, and 425
