What is a switch in general? (I.T.)?

in general it has many meanings.

1.it means to exchange or swap something.

2.it means the button etc that you press up or down to on and off a light etc or electronic device.

3.it also means a punishment device.eg.go and get a switch.in that instance it means to go and get a stick or belt for you to get punished.

l own a shop, and generally speaking, a switch is just that. It switches from one phase to another. It can be wired in many configurations, and can have many different functions, but the most basic function is to add, or take away power to something. Webster defines switch as to move from one hand to the other, as to switch hands, so if you hold power in one hand, and decide the other hand should have power, you switch hands.
