l have a 1996 pontiac sunfire that needs a new ignition cylinder. Im finding it difficult to locate a used one. From what year to what year should l be looking for? And also is a cavalier cylinder compatible?

1995 to 2005 are the same, Cavalier or Sunfire, but they are different part numbers for automatic and manual transmission.
You would be better off in the long run to get new one.

a used one would have to be keyed to your car unless you want to use 2 different keys to get in and start is. quit being cheap as the used one will probably have the same problem shortly and buy a new one
