it should read around 12-volts. an alternator has a voltage regulator that keeps its output at 12-volts. you will see some spikes, some dips in the voltage, but with everything off, and the engine in idle, it should be at 12-volts

The official reading should be 13.7 volts to 14.2 volts with the engine running at about 2000 revs.
However your gauge is probably not that accurate and if you are reading over 12.5 volts and below 15 volts it should be fine.
