I am doing a social studies project and picked a tougher topic than l thought at the time. Any Ideas?

Advantages to the largest company in the country going broke and closing. You've got to be kidding. If they no longer purchase all the steel, glass, upholstery, paint, tires and myriad parts that go into producing cars not to mention all the office and other supplies they use how many other companies will follow them into failure? Add to that the millions they would lay off who would have no way to purchase anything. There are no advantages, just disaster.

GM cars & trucks will be cheaper used. The Japanese companies will have less competition, not good for us but great for them, can u say price increases. New companies could start up & buy their brands & plants cheap from foreclosure auctions. Mechanics will be able to get their extra part supply cheap. Maintenance on GM cars & trucks will be cheaper. All their patents will go to auction or the public domain, new firms will be able to use their technologies that they developed but never used. More business for companies that sell warranties for cars after the old one runs out since all GM warranties will be voided. That is all l can think of right now.

Three benefits from an imminent demise of General Motors Corporation seem rather certain.

1. It would surely help the remaining automobile manufacturers weather the current downturn in demand. And as there r many existing automobile manufacturers & quite a number of new ones coming on the international market, the disappearance of one should have no effect on competition.

2. About 30% of the worst automobiles on the U.S. market would disappear, without any loss of the best & nearly no loss of the intermediate group. See:

3. More consumers will likely focus on quality in their selection of an automobile, as repetitive behavior would no longer be an option. This could be a great long-term benefit to the American economy & society.
