lots of miles, even though the exterior is very clean, before buying, have a trusted mechanic check the engine. These cars were very underpowered, & this one has lots of miles!!!!

Google ''Pontiac Fiero Engine Fires'' and you will see one of the main reasons they stopped building them. Design flaws caused connecting rod problems, wiring problems and leaks which all led to engine fires. Older Toyotas, Hondas and Chevy Impalas are all pretty good used cars at reasonable prices and good service records. But get it inspected by a mechanic before you buy.

For a first car?
No way.

First of all, if u own a Fiero, u had better have excellent fire insurance. Let is put it this way. Less than 5% of the Fiero is in salvage yards r ones that have not caught fire. Not caught fire. Point made.

The Fiero was doomed from the start. As GM boasted of a new type of designed vehicle. They took Arthur Fiero is concept & blundered it by cutting corners where they should not have. So, they took a Fiero & redesigned it completely but had to make sacrifices in some areas due to the losses created from the first design. That was a big mistake. They did not cover the most important factors they believed were needed in that new design. So, once again, they took the Fiero & redesigned it completely once again. They covered what they believed to be the most important factors that the vehicle lacked. That was another big mistake. As what they thought was the cause, was not.
So many Fiero is have roasted that GM should have been given an EPA violation for pollution.
For some reason, GM refused to acknowledge a characteristic on earth called gravity in torque. The gravity in torque is the same thing that makes the shoe become untied. Because the engine is transversely mounted, & the way that the fuel input goes into the fuel rail, the back & forth torque motion from the engine in conjunction with vibrations would tend to ever so slowly work the compression fitting to loosen. Had they designed the fuel rail input differently, the Fiero would not have a history it has. Once that is fitting comes loose, raw gasoline begins to soak the exhaust manifold heat shield & the insulation on the firewall. Here is the hard part for the Fiero. You r traveling forward & all this is occurring behind you. So what do u smell? Nothing. Not a thing.
Here is the typical scenario:
So u r driving down the road & the smallest spark emits on the spark plug wires just to itself, not even grounding out anywhere, & poof, a little sound is made like the popping of a fist sized balloon. That is hardly enough to hear inside a cab & even if u had the window down, with everything occurring behind u it would hardly seem like anything to be alarmed about. What gets ur attention is the seat back seems warm. But maybe it is you, & you're a little warm. About another mile down the road, u know it is not you. Now the insulation is beginning to burn & it is almost too hot to have ur back against the seat. You pull over, get out & look in the back to see the paint blistered on the engine lid & cowl. This is the point where most drivers know not what they're doing as they open the engine compartment. Doing this puts the fire into full throttle because u just gave it a license to burn. If u have a cell phone by the time he reached the fire department u will not be asking them to save ur car, just to put it out.

GM design the car, then redesigned it, then redesigned it again, then scrapped it. Worse of all, they blamed it on Arthur even though they were the ones who designed the car. In that aspect as GM designers r a bunch of jerks. Other than that, they make a pretty good car.
